The Metallurgical Engineering Trades Apprenticeship & Learning (METAL) program aims to reverse the decline of the U.S. casting and forging workforce while inspiring a new generation of metallurgical professionals. This initiative emphasizes project-based learning and modern technologies, enabling participants to identify and tackle real-world challenges and develop practical solutions in the base metals industry. Guided by industry experts, students will gain valuable insights and open doors to careers in metalcasting and forging.

The metalcasting and forging industries are experiencing a significant workforce shortage, threatening the stability of the U.S. defense supply chain. To address this issue, the METAL program was established to revitalize industry skills and provide the necessary education for developing skilled workers.

Led by the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) and supported by the Department of Defense, METAL aims to empower individuals and engage them in the field of metallurgy.
